Node is an annual motion graphics conference, held in my native Melbourne, Australia. They have various competitions and promos around the event, and here are some of the things I've created for it..
I was a little late to the party and missed the deadline to create an ident for Node '17, So I focussed on making a fun cel animation to post on instagram at the completion of the days lectures, AKA beer-O'Clock. The organisers appreciated my spirit and mentioned the animation in the post-conference mailout, naming me 'Nodester of the Year' for my efforts.
There was a competition to create a 10 second response to Node Fest 2017 using Adobe Character Animator. I whipped up this Tasmanian devil character and gave it a crack. Still trying to manually tweak the Vizemes (what they call the mouth shapes), as the automatically generated ones aren't great, but the Ui is a little confusing.
A competition entry for the Ident contest, part of Nodefest 2016. I decided to play with the fixed width vector style I have been enjoying in my corporate work and take it up a notch, to a level of playfulness I cant really use in recent contract jobs. I also wanted to take the opportunity to paint my own textured backgrounds (with a real roller) and see what kind of a feel I could get from adding handmade tactile roughness to my clean, straight lines. As always, my work can be described as 'cute', and I think that is a compliment in this case.
